Evaluations and Assessments

I am experienced in designing and running surveys and evaluations for museum visitors and exhibits. These assessments have allowed me to practice analytical skills in data gathering and evaluation, as well as providing another opportunity to engage with the public. I have developed multiple processes for recording and preserving the data from these assessments.

Timing and Tracking

As an intern at the British Museum I undertook a timing and tracking evaluation of a gallery to inform planned interpretive changes. I mapped the gallery and tracked over 300 visitors to gather the necessary data. Using the data I gathered I produced an analytical report which not only demonstrated the concrete findings of the evaluation, but also made recommendations for the gallery's renovation.  The report included visualization techniques for the data groups, which I was able to showcase while presenting the report to my office.

Exhibition Evaluation

At the CU Museum of Natural History I planned and executed an evaluation of exhibit elements for the new Anthropology exhibit, "Unearthed: Life in the Ancient Boulder Valley." The assessment targeted digital, touch, and text-based exhibit elements to determine which was most effective at delivering the content of the gallery. While the results were preliminary, I was able to draw strong conclusions that the digital elements were not as engaging to our visitors as the interactive elements and text panels. The Public Section of the museum plans to utilize the results in later gallery planning.

Visitor Surveys

At the British Museum and at Milwaukee Public Museum I performed visitor surveys and interviews for Curatorial and Interpretive departments, to gain insight into visitor expectations and needs prior to exhibit planning and renovation. At Milwaukee I was involved in defining visitors' expectations and preconceived notions on a planned exhibition about weaponry. At the British Museum I conducted terminology testing for new panels in the updated Egyptian Sculpture Hall, and interviewed visitors about their experiences in the gallery prior to the planned changes. In both projects I developed skills in transcription and in documenting interview and tracking data.
